Brandon Carney

Conference race #1 Brandon Carney had the fastest time of the evening but a wipeout on his 2nd run eliminated his chances of a Win which he was in a real good spot to obtain after he ripped his first. The following day at practice he was all out after it and wiped on a cranker gate and suffered his 1st broken bone (about time) on the eve of the Wild Invite which he did not race. Burke, Corgaard and Oillia had great runs in the conference opener, as well did all the Bengals.
Going into race #2, Brandon said he was unsure about how his thumb and cast would perform ripping the flush and was a bit concerned about grippage of his poles and the skating pole plant start. With a controlled effort and holding back some he put down a solid 1st run, 2nd run still holding back some, he picked up his pace and put down a 24.67 which was the events fastest run for the Boys Varsity. Is it the old racing Proverb - slow down to go faster - don't know. Anywho - Junior Captain Brandon Carney won the event at Trollhaugen with a winning margin of .91 seconds over the nearest competitor = wow he fast, very proud of this smart effort. Carney's last victory in conference was his freshman season 06/07, his 2nd season of gate training, back in the day of the old format of school vs. school , today it is 8 schools x 10 racers per = 80 racers per race if every team is full. Senior Captain Corell finished 14, Oillia smart big picture racing came in 15th, Delong protesting his run like it was the 70's DQ'd, Burke ripped one, Caldwell super fast run #2, Corgaard solid 2nd, Sherva and Lundquist rounding out the dudes of slalom from Blaine. The females of slalom are a promising young squad with a positive work ethic said Coach Kissner. Ski Free -Let Em Run. Picture taken last season - Fonzie and Brandon.

Sections at Giants Ridge

Feb. 5th Giants Ridge on runs Helsinki and Innsbruck where the Bengals road tripped for a 2 day event. 1st day the squad showed early afternoon and trained on these two runs. The Senior Co-captains both shined as they gave us all memorable performances. Senior Captain Nate Black while feeling a tad under the weather put down 2 solid runs which was nothing less than a Rocky Balboa performance, rumor has it he was so sick he was throwing up but this did not stop him from showing us what he is made of. Senior Captain Tyler Foxx put down a sweet 1st run which put him poised and in contention in 14th place going into run #2, this run he was all in yo and went after it, he got a little out of shape on the steep but battled to stay in it and he did but eventually the black diamond got him. Special shout out to the senior co-captains. Brandon Carney went after it both runs, 2nd run it seemed as if your skis knifed or submarined, remember what Johnny Mosely said - very proud of this one you went after it as you always have - thank you Brandon for showing me the definition of perseverance this season. Ryan Burke's 1st run was awesome, what we did not see was the bobble early on, you too went after it holding nothing back. Charlie Correll made some sweet turns and was cheered on by the his support staff. Paul Ollila as Grandma Ruth was in attendance had a awesome 2nd run and his smile and wipeout after he crossed the finish line showed us all he held nothing back.
Both these runs were steep at times and flattening out towards the bottom so you needed to carry great speed to the bottom half as only the top 10 made it to state. Sections I do believe will be held here for the next two seasons for the Bengals. Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals. Ski Free Let em run.
Feb 29th end of season party at Trollhaugen as the Captains have planned a fun filled day of tubing, skiing, and potlucking - a social if you will. Spread the word to all and hopefully some young Bengal ski team candidates will show. What a great season. Kudos to all

Conf #5 TFoxx and Carney earn some Bling Bling

The Conference finale was a fun one. Sr. Captain Tyler Foxx and Carney skied their way into the top ten. The entire Bengal squad skied with purpose - that purpose being fun and going after it. From the outside looking in a special shout out from Uncle to all the Bengal skiiers and coaches. Take this for what it means to you - this year was so fun for me to follow and watch all you kids go after it. You all have the hearts of a champion. Going forward this blog will be turned over to next years Captain's if you choose to use it, hoping you will as it can be fun. Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals.

Conf #4 The Bengal Ski Team Places 1st

Conference Race #4 while visiting Wild Mountain and racing on WILD the Bengals reached one of their conference goals this season - unofficial results but I'm going with it, they won it it, numero uno, the big cheese, the head honcho, simply the best better than all the rest this race night, The Bengal took 1st place for the boys varsity in a 8 team race format, I'm not surprised Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals, getting hot and skiing well heading into sections with one conference race remaining.

The Bengal restored itself with this victory - now you get more. Leading the charge was Carney with a 9th place finish and second consecutive top ten, very proud of this one, bobble on the 2nd run - good thing you ripped the first one. Charlie Correll with a season best 11th place finish showing what he is capable of - its about time Dawg, awesome. Ryan Burke put down 2 deserving runs and placed 14th for the Bengal. Paul I'm the most eligible bachelor on this squad Oillia skied himself into 19th place and said the leather would make an appearance at Sections - likin you in the top 20 Fonzie. Captain Nate Black rounded out the top 20 bruised hip and all with his puppy dog in attendance, you and TFoxx are in charge of this goof troop. Connor Corgaard, Cameron Caldwell, Kyle Delong, Mitch Schroeder, Luke, and Jeri all contributing to the Bengals 1st victory of 07-08 season - What a great day to be a Bengals Fan. Get greedy, get another W with one conf race remaining and gain some more momentum heading into sections, Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals.

Special Shout Out to the Coach Gronski and Coach Kissner as they lead the Bengal to the top and restored its rich tradition in skiing. Thats awesome - #1, it's a direct reflection of your efforts and the efforts and talents of this Bengal squad. This is a Proud Day for the Bengal Ski Team.

Conf Race #3, Carney Cracks the Top Ten Kapow

Week #3 saw the Bengal stay consistent with its 3rd straight 3rd place finish in its 3rd race of 5 this season for the conference title. Yep, that's all the Bengals do - take 3rd place as a Team in 07/08. Not so bad, what a Great Day to be a Bengals Alpine Ski Fan, 2 races to go and then Sections at Biwabik, I wonder if a giant lived on a ridge there?

As your AM announcements read per Coach Kissner. The Bengals Alpine Team had a great race last night. Brandon Carney was our top finisher, in second place scoring 79 points for Blaine. Senior Captain Tyler Foxx came in strong at 11th place, scoring 70 points. Following Tyler was Ryan Burke scoring 58 points, 8th grader Connor Corgard scoring 52 points, Paul Oillia scoring 42, Cameron Caldwell scoring 39, Mitch Schroeder scoring 32. Kyle Delong and Charlie Correll had falls but still scored for the team. Blaine Finished 3rd overall, with 454 points. Great Job Gentlemen. Girl's skier Jeri McClellan had a hard fall her first run, but had a great second run. Keep up the good work. Let me know how you did Young Luke Skywalker, did not see JV results and also was not in attendance. Way to go Brandon Carney, not only cracking the top 10 but finishing 2nd to only stang, 2nd place out of 80 is quite a feat for a sophomore and your best this year thus far, get em ski buddy get em, very proud of this one young man - smeeeeeee. Break down your run for me Fonzie - did you ski on snow, was it fast do tell, someday somehow.

Here it is - 2 races remain in conference, The Bengal has a stronghold on 3rd as well as chicago lakes in 1st and centennial in 2nd place - mathematically we are not out of it, however alot of Ifs need to happen - little help on this one Luke. Finish strong Blaine Bengals, keep working hard, nothing less than a 3rd place finish but go after the coveted #1 and get ready for sections. Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals, what a great day to be a Bengals Fan.

Conf Race #2 at Wild

Conference Race #2 found the Bengals finishing a deserving 3rd place as they visited Wild Mountain. Brandon Carney led the Bengal squad with a solid 14th place finish. Brandon said "it was fast and the gates were close so you could rip it but be aware of the speed trap" using different strategy smeee pulled back the reigns a bit and earned himself his best finish in conference racing this season - good call young man, nice nice nice. Still puzzled as to why you fired me as a race consultant - you never even hired me, good things, - very proud of this one. Captain TFoxx ripped his 2nd run - I mean he let em run per what Brandon said and earned 16th place. Cameron Caldwell's 1st run and hairdoo helped him earn his best finish in conf this year and also secured 21st position for the Bengal, way to go Cam. Connor The Big C Corgaard followed up race #1 nicely and finished my favorite # 24 - Kids good. Charlie The Good Dawg Correll put down 2 solid runs and was rewarded with a team helping 29th place finish and his best conf finish of '08. Captain Nate Black had a very deserving 1st run but must have got out of shape on run #2 but still finished 34th (Puckett)and contributed 47 points to the team - it happens. Paul Ollila? aka Fonzie who needs to break out the leather had a 26.44 and a 28.71, must have been 2 different courses eh, since Brandon fired me I was wondering if you needed a self appointed Race Consultant, someday somehow. Ryan Burke rebounded nicely and finished with a nice 2nd run earning 40th place and gaining 41 points for the Bengal. Kyle Delong who seems to have probably lost a ski or two or even the interstate with his 2nd run of 76 seconds still finished 66, no worries it happens get em next time Donger - is it ok 4 me 2 call u that? Thor had a nice 1st run of 26.08, 2nd run he must have got thunderstruck or something, please do tell what happened here, no worries next race put down 2 good ones. Mitch Schroeder was consistent with both runs of 28 and some change. Luke Zak had a nice 1st run of 30 and then he too got the infamous 999 - is this a dnf or dq - do tell. For the Girls Jeri McClellan finished in 58th place. This Dress Code is Mandatory, I can only hope that your coaching staff gave you all 20 hill hikes, no 40 hill hikes thats the ticket. Look like a Team, act like a Team, represent Blaine like a Team, roam your halls as a Team - not a gang, train like a Team, Ski like a Team - Be a TEAM, leave this program better than which you came into it. After 2 races The Bengal finds themselves finishing 3rd again and retaining the 3rd spot in the conference race, I think you guys did awesome, BUT, you can do more, Lets Go Bengals Lets Go Bengals, The Bengals wants a conference championship and so do I, not for me for you ludes, go get after it. Anyone got a joke or something, oooh got one, after this race Brandon's mom said, "he's so bright I call him my son", still got it Frenchy.
