Conference race #1 Brandon Carney had the fastest time of the evening but a wipeout on his 2nd run eliminated his chances of a Win which he was in a real good spot to obtain after he ripped his first. The following day at practice he was all out after it and wiped on a cranker gate and suffered his 1st broken bone (about time) on the eve of the Wild Invite which he did not race. Burke, Corgaard and Oillia had great runs in the conference opener, as well did all the Bengals.Going into race #2, Brandon said he was unsure about how his thumb and cast would perform ripping the flush and was a bit concerned about grippage of his poles and the skating pole plant start. With a controlled effort and holding back some he put down a solid 1st run, 2nd run still holding back some, he picked up his pace and put down a 24.67 which was the events fastest run for the Boys Varsity. Is it the old racing Proverb - slow down to go faster - don't know. Anywho - Junior Captain Brandon Carney won the event at Trollhaugen with a winning margin of .91 seconds over the nearest competitor = wow he fast, very proud of this smart effort. Carney's last victory in conference was his freshman season 06/07, his 2nd season of gate training, back in the day of the old format of school vs. school , today it is 8 schools x 10 racers per = 80 racers per race if every team is full. Senior Captain Corell finished 14, Oillia smart big picture racing came in 15th, Delong protesting his run like it was the 70's DQ'd, Burke ripped one, Caldwell super fast run #2, Corgaard solid 2nd, Sherva and Lundquist rounding out the dudes of slalom from Blaine. The females of slalom are a promising young squad with a positive work ethic said Coach Kissner. Ski Free -Let Em Run. Picture taken last season - Fonzie and Brandon.
